What causes a recession' How can the NHS be reformed to increase efficiency' What are your views on current government economic policy' Cardiff's BScEcon Economics degree programme has two key aims: firstly, to provide students with a thorough understanding of economic analysis; secondly, to enable students to apply this analysis and gain a deeper understanding of economic, social and political issues.

The first year focuses on mainstream economic theory. Students take compulsory modules in Economic History, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Applied Statistics and Mathematics in Economics and Business. In addition, students choose two double modules from Contemporary Economic Issues, Introduction to Accounting and Legal Studies. By building this broad-based knowledge in year one, the course equips students for a wider range of careers relating to the economics discipline.

In years two and three there is more opportunity to specialise. Compulsory modules in the area of Economic Theory are combined with a diverse choice of optional modules. Examples include Political Economy of the EU, Money, Banking and Finance, Social Economics, International Trade and Economic Development, Applied Welfare Economics, Public Finance, Managerial Economics and International Economic History. Students are also given the chance to write a dissertation on a research topic within economics.

I am enjoying the challenge of learning new skills in Economics and the lecturers make the subject interesting and easy to understand. Cardiff Business School is really friendly and the socials help you to get to know everyone.

In his spare time Richard plays American Football for Cardiff Cobras.
