The first year focuses on mainstream economic theory. Students take compulsory modules in Economic History, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Applied Statistics and Mathematics in Economics and Business. In addition, students choose two double modules from Contemporary Economic Issues, Introduction to Accounting and Legal Studies. By building this broad-based knowledge in year one, the course equips students for a wider range of careers relating to the economics discipline.
In years two and three there is more opportunity to specialise. Compulsory modules in the area of Economic Theory are combined with a diverse choice of optional modules. Examples include Political Economy of the EU, Money, Banking and Finance, Social Economics, International Trade and Economic Development, Applied Welfare Economics, Public Finance, Managerial Economics and International Economic History. Students are also given the chance to write a dissertation on a research topic within economics.
