Prospective Students

Italian and Economics (BA)

UCAS Code:

  • RL31 BA/Ec

4 years (Full-time) / n/a (Part-time) / n/a (Distance / E-Learning)

As the European Union develops, language skills are becoming increasingly attractive to both students and employers. The degree in Economics with a European Language combines the main elements of an economics degree with Italian. The first year provides the core modules which establish the foundations for the rest of the degree, together with one module in the relevant language. Students are also given their opportunity to choose an additional module, according to their particular interests.

In the second year, equal attention is given to the study of economics and the enhancement of language skills. The language modules taken during the second year provide the ideal preparation for the third year, which is spent abroad. While attending University in the country where their language of choice is spoken, students will be taught and examined in that language.

On returning to Cardiff for their fourth year, students will concentrate on the economics element of their degree programme, while taking one module in their chosen language to retain the competency they will have developed during their year abroad. The core modules taken in the fourth year ensure that students have covered the most important elements of an economics degree, while the optional module permits students to study an area which is of interest to them.

Student Views

"I chose Cardiff for its excellent reputation, which is well deserved! The atmosphere is fantastic. From my first day here I have felt at home. Lecturers and the other staff have all ensured that the atmosphere is one of a serious academic establishment but is also welcoming and friendly. We benefit from a large number of computers and a satellite viewing roon where you can watch news channels from different countries to improve your linguistic skills. I'm tempted to stay here in Cardiff and do an MA."
