Prospective Students

Accounting and Finance (BSc)

UCAS Code:

  • N490 BSc/AccF

3 years (Full-time) / n/a (Part-time) / n/a (Distance / E-Learning)

This course combines elements from both the BSc Accounting and BSc Banking and Finance degree programmes. For those interested in a career in accounting, this accredited degree programme provides exemptions from certain examinations of all the major UK professional bodies. These include: The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, The Institute of Chartered Accounting of Scotland, The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

The School is also participating in the ICAEW's Undergraduate Partnership Programme (UPP) alongside Warwick and Manchester Business Schools. Eligible to students applying for the Accounting Programme, the UPP will give students the opportunity to undertake a one year placement with an accounting firm or equivilent organisation as part of their studies. This programme will become a four year programme with the placement taking place between the second and fourth years. Students will gain valuable work experience and the placement will also count as the first year of the ACA qualification and so our students will qualify as professional accountants in two, rather than three years, post-graduation.

The modules you will study in the first year provide an introduction to financial, management accounting and finance, together with other business related subjects including economics, management, marketing, quantitative methods and law.

The second and third years of the programme combine the study of the core areas of financial accounting, business finance, and management accounting with a diverse range of specialist finance topics. Final year students in particular have the opportunity to select areas of relevance and benefits to their career interests.

Graduates of this versatile degree programme will be equally prepared for a career within the accounting profession or within the financial services sector, including corporate finance, financial consultancy, investment and retail banking, insurance and share dealing.

I really enjoyed studying Economics at A-level and was aware that Cardiff Business School has a really good reputation and a nice atmosphere. I am enjoying the challenge of learning new skills in Economics and the lecturers make the subject interesting and easy to understand. Cardiff Business School is really friendly and the socials help you to get to know everyone.

In his spare time Richard plays American Football for Cardiff Cobras.
