Banking and Finance with a European Language (BSc Econ)

UCAS Code:

  • N3R9 BSc/BFELFr with French
  • N3R2 BSc/BFELGe with German
  • N3R4 BSc/BFELSp with Spanish

4 years (Full-time) / n/a (Part-time) / n/a (Distance / E-Learning)

As the European Union develops, language skills are becoming increasingly attractive to both students and employers. The degree in Banking and Finance with a European Language combines the main elements of a Banking and Finance degree with French, German or Spanish.

The first year provides the essential banking, economics and finance related modules that form the basis of a degree in Banking and Finance together with intensive study of your chosen language.

Year 2 covers core elements of Banking and Finance, but gives equal weight to the study of the language element. The study of translation and oral skills provides an ideal preparation for the third year which is spent abroad. During their year at a University abroad, students will be taught in the language they are studying as part of their degree.

In the fourth year, when they return to Cardiff, students will concentrate on Finance and Banking modules, while taking one module in their chosen language to retain the competency which they have acquired during the year abroad. In addition to taking the core modules, students have the opportunity to choose modules in areas where they have a particular interest, such as strategic management, international trade, public finance.

Student Views

I really enjoyed studying Economics at A-level and was aware that Cardiff Business School has a really good reputation and a nice atmosphere. I am enjoying the challenge of learning new skills in Economics and the lecturers make the subject interesting and easy to understand. Cardiff Business School is really friendly and the socials help you to get to know everyone.

In his spare time Richard plays American Football for Cardiff Cobras.
