Regions: EU (Non UK)

Key Award Information

Award Title: Study grant and state guaranteed loans for Swedish citizens.

Award Description: This means that everyone receives the same amount for the same study time and study tempo, regardless of age, family affairs or place of residence. Additional loans are also available for certain extra costs, such as tuition, travel, insurance and costs for double residences.

Funding

The student grant was SEK 599 per week for the year 2006. The student loan varies depending on which country you study in. You must have been granted student aid and the ordinary student loan for the weeks for which you seek the loan in order to be entitled to additional loan. If you must pay tuition fees to your school, you can apply for a loan for the fees.

Eligibility

1) You must meet the age requirements. You are eligible for student aid until the year that you turn 55. After that, you do not have the same opportunity to take out a loan. For upper secondary education, there is also a minimum age of 20.

2) You must have been admitted to a foreign school outside Sweden, and you must have the opportunity to earn a degree or take exams

3) You must be attending a school or course that qualifies you for student aid.

4) You must be studying at least half-time.

5) You must study for at least three weeks.

6) Sweden offers no equivalent or similar studies. For instance, you cannot receive a study allowance to attend high school in the United States. But if you are living abroad with your family, certain circumstances permit you to receive a study allowance even if Sweden offers equivalent studies.

7) Your studies must clearly focus on a particular occupation or industry.

Residency: Student aid for studies abroad can be granted to persons who are Swedish citizens. To qualify for financial student aid for studies abroad, you must have some sort of tie to Sweden. You may confirm this by showing that you have been resident in Sweden for at least two consecutive years during the last five years.
