Colfuturo is a non-profit organisation that provides funds for Colombian citizens to study for postgraduate qualifications. When awarding their scholarships, Colfuturo looks at the academic excellence of the applicant and the quality of graduate programme selected. There are various scholarship programmes run by Colfuturo:
General Loan-Scholarship Programme (PGB): This is Colfuturo's main programme. It is available to students who have been unconditionally accepted onto specialisation, master or doctoral programmes in any subject in any foreign university. Within this programme are three programmes funded by:
a) Colfuturo - Colfuturo awards 70-80 scholarship-loans out of its own resources. Awards of up to US $30,000 for a maximum period of 2 years are offered. Students may choose to follow any area of study in any country or institution.
b) Colfuturo-British Council - The British Council will pay the fees for 5 or 6 candidates who undertake postgraduate studies in the UK. Supplementary aid is given by Colfuturo.
c) Colfuturo-Semana Magazine - 5 or 6 candidates who are members of the magazine's club and who wish to carry out their study programme abroad can apply to receive a monetary award from the magazine. Supplementary aid is given by Colfuturo.
