Key Award Information
The Cardiff University School of Social Sciences, supported by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, invites applications to a fully-funded PhD scholarship to begin in October 2012. The School has an international reputation across a number of social science disciplines and was ranked number one in the UK for sociology ‘research power’ in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.
We have a fully-funded PhD Scholarship available for 2012-2017. The scholarship holder will be expected to complete the MSc in Social Science Research Methods during the first year of the scholarship (unless he or she already holds this qualification). The scholarship is a key component of the School’s Welsh language development strategy and the post-holder will be expected to contribute to Welsh-medium teaching and development during the scholarship. The thesis may be presented in Welsh or English.
Candidates are invited to propose a PhD topic in any area of interest to the school, including Criminology, Education, Science and Technology Studies, Social Policy, Social Work and Social Care, and Sociology. The School also welcomes Interdisciplinary applications.
Applications are invited from candidates with a first class, or upper second class, honours degree or appropriate master’s degree.
The scholarship funds all PhD fees plus a tax-free bursary comparable to research council funding.
