Architectural Studies (MArch)

Please note: the MArch is the second stage of the two-tier BSc/MArch programme. Prospective students interested in this study option should pay particular attention to the Entry Requirements below.

Aims of this Course:

This second stage of the two tier BSc/MArch programme of study is intended for those who wish to continue their education towards becoming qualified architects. It comprises two years of study, one year of which is based at the School, the other predominantly in practice.

The MArch programme of study is in modular form and aims:

1. To extend design experience and knowledge to include the design of more complex buildings and the demands of urban design and, in doing this, to aspire to the highest standards of architecture.

2. To study professionally associated aspects of the architect’s work and, within this experience, to become able to meet the demands being made in the architectural profession.

3. To pursue specialisms within the field and, in this process, receive a grounding in research methods and an in-depth study of an aspect of architectural design.

Entry Requirements:

To proceed to the MArch you must have our degree of BSc in Architectural Studies with at least a 2.2 Honours classification or, if you are entering from another School, normally a good first degree or equivalent qualification which carries exemption from the Part 1 of the RIBA, with a strong design portfolio.
