Marketing and Strategy (PhD)

The Marketing and Strategy Section at Cardiff Business School undertakes and publishes innovative and original research on the formulation and implementation of effective market strategies at domestic and international levels. The Section will continue to produce contributions, useful to business practitioners, public policy makers and researchers in a wide range of fields.

Course Structure

The route involves one year of research training followed by three years' work on your PhD topic. The training in the first year comprises of participation in general and subject-specific modules which leads to a Masters qualification in Social Science Research Methods.

Research training is increasingly being seen nationally and internationally as an important requirement for the successful completion of a doctoral thesis and Cardiff Business School places great store on this aspect of its Postgraduate Research Studies Programme.

Successful completion of the research training part of the programme, with an average mark of at least 60%, is compulsory in order for students to proceed to the research topic stage.

Programme Assessment

Student will be assessed on a Dissertation of 20,000 words for the MSc in Social Science Research Methods component of the programme.

Students will be assessed on a Thesis of 80,000 words and a Viva Voce Examination for the PhD component of the programme.

The PhD programme will prepare you either for a career as a leading academic scholar or to excel in business practitioning or senior public policy decision making.

Entry Requirements

Suitable for graduates in business and management, and marketing.

Applicants should have at least an upper second-class Honours degree and preferably a specialist Masters’ degree and an interest in pursuing in-depth research in an appropriate area.

Applicants whose first language is not English are normally expected to have reached a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 (writing scored 7.0, with no subscore less than 6.5) Copies of appropriate English language certificates must be supplied with your application.

How to Apply

Please complete the online application form for the Doctor of Philosophy (Business Studies).

Applicants are required to include a research proposal of 3 to 4 pages.

The deadline for applications is June 30, 2016.
