Course Aims

Multimedia is the convergence and integration of various types of digital media, for example images, sound, video, text, graphics and animations. This programme is designed to meet the urgent need for specialists trained in Multimedia Systems and Communications Engineering to face the challenges posed by ever-developing new technology.

Course Description

This MSc is designed to create expertise in the technologies needed to support broadcast, entertainment, surveillance, gaming, medical, and defence and communication industries.

The structure of the course is 12 modules taught over 7 months during the Autumn and Spring semesters, followed by a 5 month industrially related project within the field. The MSc in Multimedia Systems and Communications Engineering is supported by academic staff from both the School of Engineering and the School of Computer Science.

Assessment: Examinations, coursework and an individual project.

Entry Requirements

An upper 2nd class UK Honours degree (or equivalent) from a British or recognised overseas university. Suitable for graduates in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.  Applicants with relevant professional experience are also considered.

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to pass either IELTS/TOEFL exams.  Minimum requirements are: IELTS score of 6.5, or TOEFL score of 600 (250 computer-based).

Note: International students pursuing part-time programmes of study are not eligible for Tier 4 (General Student) visas and must have alternative leave to remain in the UK if they intend to study at the University in person.
