To offer knowledge and expertise in the science and practice of tissue engineered therapies, from theoretical science through testing and commercial exploitation to clinical application.

This Masters programme consists of four taught modules:
- Research Methodologies
- Cellular and Molecular Biology
- Innovation and Environment
- Tissue Engineering from Concept to Clinical Practice
In addition, clinically trained professionals will acquire the knowledge to understand the scientific data generated and translate it successfully into something of clinical value – ‘Bench to Bedside’. Teaching is delivered via formal seminars, lectures, practical laboratory sessions and interactive workshops in the traditional, as well as industrial, setting.
This course is jointly taught by staff in the School of Dentistry and the Cardiff School of Biosciences.
Graduates from this Programme will be able to:
- Demonstrate systematic understanding of the multi-disciplinary nature of tissue engineering and the need for integration of knowledge from different fields
- Demonstrate an understanding of the cellular/tissue alterations which occur during various disease states and ageing in humans
- Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the core principles of tissue engineering
- Demonstrate an understanding of the physical and biochemical techniques available for the assessment and development of tissue engineered products for clinical use
- Critically evaluate knowledge at the forefront of a range of disciplines, such as stem cell biology, biomaterials, tissue/organ engineering and innovation
- Utilise knowledge and scientific evidence-based methods in the assessment and solution of challenges in the field of tissue engineering
- Undertake and accurately perform various laboratory-based methodologies relevant to tissue engineering research
- Collect, evaluate, synthesise and interpret qualitative and quantitative data in a variety of ways; and identify means to gather new data where required

The programme is suitable for life-scientists, engineers and clinical graduates interested in acquiring multidisciplinary skills in this expanding, clinically and industrially important area of research.
Applicants to the MSc Tissue Engineering are required to have a minimum 2:2 undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and may come from either a laboratory or clinical science background.
Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to obtain an overall IELTS score of 7 with a minimum score of 6 in each of the four bands). Applicants are required to have achieved the IELTS prior to an application being submitted.
