Accounting (BSc)

UCAS Code:

  • N400 BSc/Ac

3 years (Full-time) / n/a (Part-time) / n/a (Distance / E-Learning)

Accounting is a very popular degree programme and places are much sought after. Students are invariably attracted to the diverse and rewarding career opportunities that are opened up to those who gain good accountancy qualifications. This accredited degree programme provides exemptions from certain examinations of all the major UK professional bodies. These include: The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, The Institute of Chartered Accounting of Scotland, The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

The School is also participating in the ICAEW's Undergraduate Partnership Programme (UPP) alongside Warwick and Manchester Business Schools.  Eligible to students applying for the Accounting Programme, the UPP will give students the opportunity to undertake a one year placement with an accounting firm or equivilent organisation as part of their studies.  This programme will become a four year programme with the placement taking place between the second and fourth years. Students will gain valuable work experience and the placement will also count as the first year of the ACA qualification and so our students will qualify as professional accountants in two, rather than three years, post-graduation.

The first year modules provide an introduction to financial and management accounting together with a wide range of other business related subjects including economics, management, law and marketing.

In the second and third year, core modules providing a sound theoretical knowledge and understanding of professional procedures together with an awareness of current developments in accounting form the basis of study. Students may then choose from a range of options in specialised aspects of national or international accounting, marketing or economics, thus enabling students to tailor their courses to suit their career aspirations.
